Who said MYDD didn't matter?: Hillary's Triumph

Deep in the British countryside, almost at dial up speed, this British Obama supporter who can't rec or rate wanted to share with you an odd moment.

Arianna Huffington has just posted a front page piece on the Huffington Post about HILLARY'S TRIUMPH in blazing a trail for women and the presidency.

Better sourced, more detailed and more cogently written, it still followed the main thread of my diary from the weekend:Hillary's Quest for Presidency: Blazing the Trail - the first time I've ever been on the rec list here

Arianna also used a phrase about Hillary 'taking over the Clinton brand'. It sounded a bit like a phrase I used - and think I coined. Never expected any credit and lo and beyond... The Huffington Post piece linked referred back to my MYDD diary

People responded well to the diary, though it stayed up less than a day. But I'm still chuffed that this meme about Hillary taking over the Clinton brand has some traction, because it's completely true. But the point of this diary is not to gloat or boast (OK a little), or to remind us all to be more careful what we write because this is a public site and people read this stuff, no my main burning question out of this fifteen nanoseconds of blogospheric fame is:

Jerome can I have my reccing and rating powers back?

Update [2008-5-19 19:41:21 by duende]: Now this writer's retreat and it's slow wireless network is really pissing me off. I want to respond to all your kind comments. But instead, I've come up with another request:

Can all of us, Obama and Hillary supporters alike, have our rec and rating powers back? Please. Pretty please? We'll use them wisely. Promise.

Poll
The fact Arianna Quoted my MYDD means
You Obama supporters are all paid shills
Duende should get his rec and rating powers back
Duende should be banned completely
Go on, Jerome, give him a job
We should all be better behaved
Get over yourself, Duende, Brit, or whatever your name is

Re: Who said MYDD didn't matter?: Hillary's Triump (2.00 / 8)

It was a great diary. The Arianna Huffington piece is one of the best I've read on Hillary in a long time. This includes diaries written by Clinton loyalists and media surrogates.

I think rating and reccing (and the fact that it means so much to you) is not an extraordinary request.

Congratulations!

Congrats.

And Jerome, I second Brit's Duende's request to have his rec'ing/rating abilities back. I'd be glad to compile a list of people who need to be unable to rec/rate. Not that anyone cares what I think, of course.

Re: Who said MYDD didn't matter?: Hillary's Triump (2.00 / 3)

I haven't turned against Jerome. But I'm disappointed by the way he's done some things around here lately. Reasonable, polite people are sometimes banned without being told why (no warnings), and yet, people like switching sides (whose comments are easily found in the hide bin) are never banned, presumably because s/he claims to be a Clinton supporter. People suddenly find themselves unable to recommend diaries or rate comments, and Jerome explains the phenomenon in a rather disingenuous fashion.

I admire Jerome -- and Markos, too, despite his Hillary hate -- and it's hard not to, really, after reading CTG. But I think he has erred by failing to be more impartial. He has penalized Obama supporters when punishment was undeserved. Kos has likewise erred in fostering a toxic mindset -- he really jumped the shark with the face-widening diary.

Re: Who said MYDD didn't matter?: Hillary's Triump (none / 0)

sricki - i have to somewhat disagree with you albeit not willingly (as i am against using diaries to talk about unrelated topics).  but - for example, while i gave kudos to this diarist below for a great job below, he/she has been unwarrantedly been nasty to me in violation of the site rules in the past.

i have seen terrible behaviour here from supporters on both sides and throughout the internet.  and letting things go unchecked can be v. dangerous.  if there is a clear oversight and someone undeserving gets their privileges revoked - then they should certainly get them back as i think jerome and the admins have stated.

Re: Who said MYDD didn't matter?: Hillary's Triump (2.00 / 1)

You're absolutely right that there's been terrible behavior from supporters on both sides -- I see worse behavior from Obama supporters on dKos and worse behavior from Hillary supporters here. The problem is, on MyDD, much of that poor conduct goes unpunished when it comes from our side, whereas the other side is punished somewhat arbitrarily.

if there is a clear oversight and someone undeserving gets their privileges revoked - then they should certainly get them back as i think jerome and the admins have stated

Jerome may say that, but that isn't necessarily what he does.

And I suppose we'll just have to respectfully disagree about this diarist. He's usually very polite. Perhaps you've caught each other at bad moments or misunderstood each other? It happens a lot. In general, I don't think I'm a terribly rude person, but I've had some shameful outbursts around here (even in the last couple of weeks). I can't imagine brit saying some of the nasty, spiteful things I've said -- and yet he's the one who's had his privileges taken. Surely you've also broken site rules at some point or another? It's often unintentional, and sometimes almost uncontrollable. It happens to all of us. But the double standard is so blatant, it would be comical if it wasn't so disappointing.

Re: Who said MYDD didn't matter?: Hillary's Triump (2.00 / 2)

Hey. Once again thanks for watching my back. I really don't know why the poster above thinks I was abusive or insulting, but you're right about how easy it is to misread TONE on blogs like this, and feelings escalate. I frankly think she must have confused me with someone else.

In the meantime however, God has spoken from a whirlwind, and my powers are back. Not entirely sure how I feel about this, since I rather liked my dissident samizdhat status.

But the good thing is - I can give you mojo. And I can rec your diary: when you write a new one. Still waiting for that Sricki.

Re: Who said MYDD didn't matter?: Hillary's Triump (2.00 / 2)

Dear Canadian Gal,

This is off thread, and it is a bit unfair of accusing me of some kind of abuse of the system.
Tone is very hard to pick up on posts like this.

Just to end this animosity, can I make it clear. My rec and ratings ability was suspended not because of anything I'd said in an open thread.

As for whatever grievance you have, I've never been insulting. If you look back on my comments.

1. I defended you when an Obama supporter said Canadians can't vote and therefore can have no comment.
2. I noticed you'd trolled someone you'd merely disagreed with on your diary. Common practise here, but I think it's wrong.

3. I mentioned a previous diary months back when you'd said you knew little about an issue, and then you had lots of links from pro Hillary sites.

I hardly think anyone of these constitute insulting behaviour. So I'd ask you please to revisit your memories of them

let me stand correct it, as brit..... (2.00 / 2)

in my personal experience - you did not do any of the above.  but - yes, just recently, under your new name, you did accuse me of nonsense which is untrue and a violation of the sites rules (whilst defending me of allowing to HAVE an opinion).

i do not abuse TR/HR's at all - but when you did the above, i did TR you as i think personal attacks do warrant them.  as to the diary in question, i would advise you to look back at the history as i linked to the new republic - hardly a pro HRC site, but even if i did as you say link to a source you dont like - in no way did you recent response warrant it.

so where does that leave things? if - for some reason - the exchange we recently had was not the norm for you, then i agree - you SHOULD NOT have your privileges revoked.  otherwise its just sour grapes.  but congrats!

I don't like to think of her as "taking over the brand."  I'd rather think of her as another fine product under the brand.  Maybe Chelsea will become interested in politics within the next couple of decades and I will be able to choose another Clinton product.

Hillary to Snatch Nomination??

by Al Rodgers, Tue Apr 29, 2008 at 06:28:47 PM EST

KEITH OLBERMANN, HOST (voice over):  "Which of these stories will you be talking about tomorrow?"

"Out of gas: The rational superdelegates have all decided and they`ve secretly told the campaigns and the Obama people are happy.  Where does that leave Senator Clinton`s bid to snatch the nomination?"

Countdown with Keith Olbermann' for Wed, Apr 30, 2008

► Tweety picked up my line about Muhammad Ali vs Sonny Liston; Tina Fey and SNL, and another line that I don't want to bring up, right now.  So, obviously one of his producers/writers reads this site.

► Nightline also used one of my quotes during the Indiana primary, but that was from Dkos.
